Ingredients

Can't find it? You can use fresh cod instead of dried, but the texture will be completely different.

How to make it (one way)

  1. Soak the dried cod in water for 5–6 days to rehydrate
  2. Soak it in lye for about 2 days, until it swells and turns jelly-like
  3. Soak it in fresh water for several more days to rinse out the alkali
  4. Cut into portions, salt, and gently steam or bake
  5. Top with melted butter and bacon
⚠️ Lye is a strong alkali that damages skin. Don't make this at home; have it locally or buy it from a specialty shop.
